Ezekiel 18
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Deuteronomy 5
8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: 9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

The Bible puts heavy importance on the spirit. Every man is accounted for his good works. Not because of the good work of his father or mother or siblings or relatives. It is an honor to have parents who done good work. However if your father is known for corruption, the children will suffer the stigma unto the third and fourth generation. Its a bad soil for kids to grow on.

1 Timothy 3
1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.    2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

However the deacon is allowed little wine.

Also people they made their own rules for fun and pleasure - adopting sexual practices not advised by the Bible. It says one man and one woman will be joined into one. Treat the woman with respect. Any corruption would result in diseases like cancer which would be passed to the third and fourth generation.

There is an old saying 'Lightning doesn't strike the same place twice'. That is proved wrong in modern times because of lightning arresters. Honestly I have no idea whether this is connected to the verses, just thought appropriate.
